Me, Myself & Ash…
Ashlynd Scavotto is an interdisciplinary visual artist from the southern Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. Currently residing in Boone, NC, while studying studio art at Appalachian State University.
Ashlynd was raised in a low-income household which influences her love of found objects and the repurposing of material. Limited at the time as to what was available to use in her practice she now diligently collects and re-uses what she can. She feels this adds a level of intentionality and significance to the layers of her pieces.
Her work focuses on the ideas of the human experience. Expressing the link between home and the objects that we affiliate with it. Experimenting with memory and our attachment to visual permanence and connecting what we think to what we see.
Ashlynd expresses her essence through a range of materials. Constantly on the search for new ways to make marks. Her process is driven by a never-ending urge to create. Her goal is to help spark human connection through those creations. Whether that be from one to another or oneself to their own human form.
She frequently attends local handmade markets in southern North Carolina. Selling her stareable art, such as painting and photographic prints. Her wearable art; hand sewn hoodies, jewelry and bags. And her sharable art, such as stickers and greeting cards. Enjoying the creation of connections with strangers through her creations.
Her work has been shown at the Nth Gallery (Boone, NC) on multiple occasions. She is also an assistant visual editor for The PEEL Literary and Arts Magazine for Appalachian State University and has published in the magazines 2022 and 2023 issue. Ashlynd was a volunteer at the Quick Draw art auction from 2014-2019 and received a scholarship in 2019 from the organization.
In the future Ashlynd plans to complete her BFA in studio art from Appalachian by spring of 2024 and to continue creating and pursuing art as well as the connections that come with it.
